A Midsummer Night’s Dream
February 16, 2017 - February 25, 2017
Harding University presents ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’
SEARCY, Ark. (Feb. 9, 2017) — The Harding University Department of Theatre presents Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in the Ulrey Performing Arts Center on campus Feb. 16-18 and Feb. 23-25 at 7 p.m.
“‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ is one of Shakespeare’s most famous and widely read and produced comedies,” said Steve Frye, director of the show and chair of the theatre department. “The play revolves around the misadventures of four young lovers, a group of hopeless actors, and an encounter with the forces of a supernatural world.”
The cast is comprised of 20 University students, including seven students completing senior capstone work in the show. The production is the theatre department’s classics component of its 2016-17 season, which will also feature “The Seasons of Life” and “Twice Upon a Time” later this spring.
“Shakespeare is studied as literature in schools and rightly so,” Frye said. “William Shakespeare was a brilliant poet and storyteller. But the purpose of Shakespeare’s plays is only truly found when they are seen and heard — they were written to be brought to life. ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ is coming to life, up close and personal. Don’t miss it.”
