Position Announcement

Assistant/Associate Professor in Kinesiology

Pepperdine University’s Seaver College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences, located in Malibu, California, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Sports Medicine.  Applicants must have a completed Ph.D. with expertise in at least one of the recognized subdisciplines of the exercise sciences by July 2019.  As the program is hiring three new tenure-line faculty for the 2019-2020 academic year, we have the flexibility to recruit and hire the person who best fits the needs of the program and university and are not constrained by a specific subdiscipline of kinesiology. If you are seeking a tenure line faculty appointment as a scholar/educator at a premier Christian university committed to the highest standards of the liberal arts and kinesiology, then we encourage you to apply.

Successful candidates will actively contribute to a rigorous curriculum in the exercise sciences, with demonstrated doctoral/post-doctoral preparation for teaching undergraduate coursework in two or more of the following areas: human anatomy, human physiology, functional anatomy, exercise physiology, motor behavior, neuroscience, biostatistics/research methods, health and disease, health and fitness, physical activity epidemiology, or exercise/sports psychology. In addition to teaching expectations, candidates are expected to establish a productive research program that involves undergraduate students.  Current research interests in the department include human performance in hypoxia, nutritional considerations for elite athletes, and exercise during the perinatal period.  Well-equipped exercise science laboratories are available for teaching and research.  Scholarly collaboration among Sports Medicine faculty as well as with faculty from other disciplines (e.g., biology, nutrition, chemistry, physics, etc.) is encouraged.

Successful candidates also must demonstrate an active commitment to the Christian values of the University (https://www.pepperdine.edu/about/our-story/mission-vision) and the mission of Seaver College (http://seaver.pepperdine.edu/about/mission/).  Located near Los Angeles in Southern California, Pepperdine University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute through their teaching, research and service to the diversity and excellence of the University and our surrounding community.

Applicants should submit: 1) a cover letter, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) a statement of teaching philosophy, 4) a research agenda, 5) a statement indicating how the candidate will support the Christian mission of the University, 6) transcripts of all graduate work (copies are acceptable during the application process; however, official transcripts will be required for selected applicants, and 7) three confidential letters of recommendation.  Materials should be submitted to: https://apply.interfolio.com/54939

Review of applications will begin on January 2, 2019 and continue until the position is filled.  A background check is required as a condition of employment.  Any inquiries about this position should be sent to:
