Church of Christ buildings in California, Texas vandalized
Churches of Christ in California and Texas were attacked by vandals over the weekend.
KABC-TV in Los Angeles reports:
VICTORVILLE, Calif. (KABC) — A San Bernardino County church was hit by vandals this weekend.
Sheriff’s department investigators call the incident a “senseless act.” Members of the Victor Valley Church of Christ in Victorville are in disbelief.
The vandalism happened sometime between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. The vandals spray-painted the exterior of the church, windows, the youth center and even the trees.
Church officials say the damage is estimated in the thousands of dollars.
Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., which is associated with Churches of Christ, has offered to help with the cleanup.
Jasper County Sheriff Mitchell Newman and his deputies are investigating a case of vandalism and arson that occurred overnight at a church in Buna.
Newman said firemen were called to the Northwest Church of Christ, which is located about two miles north of Buna, on Highway 96, shortly before 4:00, on Monday morning, when it was reported that the structure was on fire.
Newman said that after the fire was extinguished, it was discovered that someone had turned all of the pews in the church upside down and performed other acts of vandalism.
A longtime member of the church, Clara Miller, said the incident came following the beginning of a gospel meeting or revival that began on Sunday evening that was scheduled to run through Wednesday.
