Christian Chronicle wins five first-place awards in ‘Best of the Christian Press’ contest
The Christian Chronicle won seven awards — including top honors in five categories — in the annual “Best of the Christian Press” contest sponsored by the Associated Church Press.
The national awards, recognizing work produced in 2011, were presented at a banquet this week in Chicago.
Winning entries included:
• First Place, In-Depth Coverage, for “The Gospel in South Sudan,” by Erik Tryggestad.
• First Place, News Story, for “He was a hero to his church family,” by Bobby Ross Jr.
• First Place, Feature Article, for “Suicide: Healing a wounded town,” by Bobby Ross Jr.
• First Place, Biographical Profile, for “Air Force chaplain welcomes the fallen home,” by Erik Tryggestad.
• First Place, Newspaper Design, Spread or Story, for “Currents: Latin America,” by Erik Tryggestad.
• Second Place, Convention or Meeting Coverage, for “Saving Sin City,” by Bobby Ross Jr.
• Third Place, Best in Class, National or International Newspaper, for The Christian Chronicle.
Late last month, the Chronicle received three awards from the Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists:
• First Place, Editorial/Commentary, for “Taking steps to protect children,” by Bobby Ross Jr.
• Third Place, Sports Feature, for “You have to find some way to stand back up,” by Hamil Harris and Erik Tryggestad.
• Third Place, General News Reporting, for “He was a hero to his church family,” by Bobby Ross Jr.
