Barbara Ann Brown Deal, Memorial, 1934-2015
Barbara’s parents and brothers, James Curtis Brown and Jerry Paul Brown, preceded her in death. Barbara graduated from high school in Jennings, La., and completed a bachelor’s degree at Abilene Christian College in 1956. While in college, she met and married Lloyd A. Deal on Oct. 22, 1954. They enjoyed more than 60 years of wedded life.
In 1964, the College Church of Christ in Searcy, Ark., invited Barbara and Lloyd to join a stateside mission work in Iowa. They lived in Des Moines from 1964 until 1988. While in Iowa they were blessed with two sons, Ronald L. and Roger B. Deal.
With the move in 1988 to Edmond, Okla., came an emphasis on mission work in East Africa. Over the years, Barbara made 15 mission trips to Kenya and Uganda. She was active in teaching ladies classes, in her Empty Nester’s Bible class, and on the missions committee at the Memorial Road Church of Christ.
She enjoyed traveling and sports of all kinds. She treasured being with her 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren whenever she could.
Please consider gifts to the Conner’s Song ministry in conjunction with Touch a Life Foundation (touchalifekids.org), which sponsors art center projects for trafficked children around the world and in so doing honors Barbara’s grandson, Conner Deal, who preceded her in death.
