The Southside Church of Christ in Rogersville, Ala., is mourning the slaying of Sharon Wellington, a 32-year-old church member.

Sharon Wellington

Church leaders posted this statement on the congregation’s Facebook page:

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of our dear and faithful sister, Sharon Wellington. We offer our deepest condolences to her family and friends.
Sis. Sharon’s presence and passion for God will be greatly missed by all of us. We know that God is willing and able to see us through this very trying time. We solicit your prayers for the family of our Sis. Sharon Wellington, as well as for the many lives God used her to touch and encourage. She is a precious jewel now resting in the hands of our Almighty God.

Let us comfort one another with these words “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” Revelations 14:13
She was in the Lord and full of good works.

A local television station reports:

ATHENS, AL (WAFF)– Investigators continue to piece together evidence in connection to the murder of an Athens woman.32-year-old Sharon Wellington was found dead Friday night at the Elmwood Apartments on East Elm Street, where she lived alone.
As authorities work to find her killer, those close to Wellington are mourning her loss.
“Sharon was such a beautiful young lady. She was very caring, very loving, and always wanting to help,” said Joy Watkins, a close friend and fellow church member.
Wellington moved to Athens just a couple of years ago.
With no ties to the area, the Southside Church of Christ in Rogersville became her home, and its congregation became her family.

Sharon was one of my Bilbe school students as a teen. She was indeed a sweet young lady who was very creative. She often wrote poetry to encourage thought and compassion. I am deeply saddened to hear of this tragedy.

I knew Sharon, she’s a good friend of my grandmother’s. It’s just so sudden when I heard about this. I was so surprised! She would often call and ask my grandmother how we were all doing. Things won’t ever be the same without yu Shar….

I did send a greeting card to Sharon for the upcoming holiday season and realize she may not have had the opportunity to receive it. I wrote it out on the evening of Thanksgiving Day and mailed it out to her on the following day. I am praying without ceasing as best I can. Of course I’ll miss her. She called me during the Superstorm Sandy that hit my area. I’m sorry there wasn’t anything l could have done to help her through this heinous crime. I will carry her and her sweet manner, and kindness in my heart forever. She’s with her mom now and present with the Lord. Resting in His abiding love.

    Sister Sharon Wellington
You are now with Jesus Son
Of the Living and Most High
All I’ve done is wonder why
I am going to continue believing
Because I know you are with Him receiving
    Comforts you have never known
As you sit and watch Him on His throne
No matter the things that we see
Or whatever the thing we want to be
We are Christians first and foremost
I know He is a gracious Host
Of all the things that you have said and done
I know you kept Him number One
This thing that has happened just doesn’t make sense
But you can rest in confidence

Dearest Lord please hear our prayers
You know how much we cared
Our hearts are broken becaue of this heartless crime
We are all praying that the authorities will find
Who this person is and bring him in
Help us lord as we try and mend
We as Christians know that Sharon is safely in your arms
Our faith tells us that for her soul there is no harm
Our memories will keep Sharon alive in our hearts
Were just so sad she had to depart
Together we are sending out our prayers to you
Help us Lord not to lose our spiritual view

Lord, have mercy on the family of Sharon’s and all of us whose iives she touched. Death is a hurtful thing, but when it is senseless the way we lost a (jewel) it hurts deeper. We will never get the opportunity again to read the words of wisdom from someone so special who lived a short span of 32 years. TO GOD BE The Glory, for knowing you Sharon.
