MARYLAND

DISTRICT HEIGHTS —
As District Heights Church of Christ minister Willie Hubbard sees it, every congregation could use a Keith Johnson.

Johnson works full time for the federal government, but it’s his dedicated service as a volunteer and associate minister that makes such a difference, Hubbard said.

“Brother Keith has been effective in helping us to revitalize our spiritual fervor, mobilizing the congregation into the surrounding neighborhoods,” Hubbard said. “We are blessed to work with him and his wonderful wife, Sherrie.”

GREAT FALLS — Nearly 150 teens and sponsors from congregations in Montana and Alberta attended a recent youth rally hosted by the Great Falls Church of Christ.

The youth groups competed to see which could collect the most food for the Mountain States Children’s Home in Longmont, Colo. In all, more than five tons of food and supplies were donated. Teens from Medicine Hat, Alberta, collected 4,800 pounds.

PORTALES — Coby Carter, a member of the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ, was recently named the Western Swing Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists.

Carter is a 20-year-old student at Eastern New Mexico University who works full time in the agriculture industry in addition to his music and church activities.

“Western swing is a small sub-genre of country music,” minister David Kilgore said. “We are … very proud of what Coby Carter has accomplished. He is part of our regular song leading rotation here.”

TEXAS
SNYDER — This small town has few options for couples’ nights out, so the East Side Church of Christ provides one. The most recent community date night hosted by the church drew about 150 guests.

“We have an elegant off-site venue with china and high-end decorations,” minister Jeff Dunn said, noting that the congregation “saw a need to strengthen relationships through providing an opportunity for couples to have an elegant date.”
