A giving church in Illinois
WSIL TV in southern Illinois reports:
CARBONDALE — A free give-away in Carbondale on Saturday saw dozens of people flock to a local church. Every year, the Carbondale Church of Christ gives away many items collected from their church members. People got to take home clothing, books, electronics, and furniture.
Church Minister Stephen Shaffer says this was an opportunity to reach out and meet new people.
“One of the things that I love is just walking around and getting to know their story, finding out where they’re from, what’s going on and all those kinds of things.”

FeedbackSat. Aug. 24th was our first shoe giveaway in our church. From June 2013 till now we collected approximately 500 pairs of gently used and a few new pairs of shoes. We had a giveaway to anyone in need and saw 47 people come and gave away approximately 150 pairs! We live in a community of 12,000 and our average attendance is about 40 people. We had 4 people come to worship the next morning, and NO obligation was asked for! We felt like it was a huge success!!! And we plan to have it again in November.Linda LindellAugust, 26 2013
