Mary Helon Fletcher

Mary Helon McAnulty Fletcher died in Edmond, Okla., on Oct. 4. She was born in Magnolia, Ark. on April 24, 1923.

She graduated from Abilene Christian College, and began public school music teaching in 1943. She married her college sweetheart, Harold, on Aug. 16, 1944.

Mary Helon taught in the music department at ACC then later at Oklahoma Christian University. She maintained a private piano studio in her home, and for many years played duo pianos with Harold in campus productions. Following retirement in 1992, she continued enjoying music of all types, gardening, travel and family activities.

She is survived by Harold, her husband of 57 years; daughters Alicia Burch, Prairie Village, Kan., Nancy Snyder, Richmond, Va., Sylvia Hurst, Edmond, Okla.; a son, John, Edmond, Okla.; and five grandchildren.

Robert Dee McMillan died in Edmond, Okla., on Sept. 15. He was born in Lexington, Okla., on July 8, 1939.

He attended Oklahoma Christian College, graduated from Abilene Christian College and received a doctoral degree in math from Oklahoma State University.

Robert strongly believed in Christian education and taught for 35 years at Oklahoma Christian University. He chaired the math department for many years and was OC’s first Distinguished Professor.

He also received the Gaylord Chair of Distinguished Teaching. He also served as a deacon and teacher at the Memorial Road church and most recently taught a series about angels.

He enjoyed cars and found joy in giving rides to his grandchildren in his Corvair, motorcycle and boat.

Robert is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kaye; daughters Robin Waugh and Jana Newsom; and five grandchildren, all of Edmond, Okla.
