11 countries in 11 months
Raquel Bagnal is part of a team that will scurry around the globe, much like contestants on the TV show “The Amazing Race.”
Instead of competing for money, Bagnal and her teammates will spread the love of Christ.
Bagnal, a member of the Aiken Church of Christ, is participating in The World Race. The yearlong mission trip is sponsored by Gainesville, Ga.-based Adventures in Missions, an interdenominational organization (unrelated to the same-named Church of Christ ministry in Lubbock, Texas).
Bagnal, 23, moved to the U.S. from the Philippines at age 7. The race will take her back to her home country, plus China, South Africa, Mozambique, Swaziland, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Guatemala, Honduras or El Salvador and Nicaragua.
During the 11-month trip, her six-member team will build schools and homes, minister to victims of genocide and child prostitution and feed the hungry.
“This is what I define as taking a big leap of faith,” she told the Aiken Standard.
Bagnal said her church helped raise funds for the trip and has overwhelmed her with support.
“I appreciate the Aiken Church of Christ. It’s such an amazing community that has helped me in so many ways,” Bagnal said. “I’m just very blessed to have this church.”
